Gianella Bejar-Alvarez is the Software Engineering Lead.
She is a second-year Computer Engineering student at the University of Toronto. Throughout her first year, she honed her programming skills, particularly in C, and performed engineering design with a breast reconstruction training tool project at Sunnybrook Hospital. Prior to attending university, she obtained a Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate, which developed her abilities in SQL, R, and data visualisation. Previously, Gianella worked in project management and content creation for The Z Link, a social media marketing business. In addition to her employment at RainGrid, she currently works in IT systems for the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services for Ontario.
Her involvement with RainGrid began in January 2024, when she led a team of UofT students to present RainGrid’s mission and vision in a pitch competition. She now continues her work, motivated by her passion to educate property owners about the tangible impact they can have on the environment while compensating them for it. Gianella’s motivation stems from the idea of using technology, particularly machine learning, to benefit the community through RainGrid’s innovative water management solution.
